1. Ultrasound Upper Abdomen:

Patient should come empty stomach in the morning or must be empty stomach for at least last 4 – 5 hours during the day.

2. Ultrasound Lower Abdomen / Pelvis: Patient can have breakfast

  • Patient should drink 1 /2 – 1 litre of water, hold urine and report when the bladder is full.
  • Do not empty the bladder, unless asked by the doctor.

3. Ultrasound whole abdomen:

  • Patient should come empty stomach in the morning or should be empty stomach for at least last 4 – 5 hours. Patient should drink ½ – 1 litre of water and hold the urine and report when the bladder is full.

4. Ultrasound Small Parts:

  • No preparation is required for Breast, Thyroid, Scrotum.

5. Musculoskeletal scans-

  • No preparation is required.

6. Transcavitary scans –

  • TVS & TRS- require no preparation.

7. Pregnancy/ obstetric Scan –

  • No fasting required. May require to hold urine for 1-2 hrs before examination.
