The procedure, known as saline infusion sonohysterography (SIS), is an ultrasound-based technique where normal saline is gently pushed through a catheter into the uterus. This method enhances the visibility of the uterine cavity and the endometrium, providing a clearer view for the detection of abnormalities. Unlike other imaging procedures, SIS does not involve the use of X-ray radiation, making it a safer option for evaluating uterine health. Typically, this procedure is scheduled between days 7-10 of your menstrual cycle, a time frame that allows for optimal imaging conditions as the endometrial lining is thinnest, thereby improving the accuracy of the diagnosis. The process begins with the insertion of a thin catheter through the cervix into the uterus. Once in place, saline solution is slowly infused, expanding the uterine cavity and creating a distinct contrast on the ultrasound images. This enhanced imaging capability aids in the identification of issues such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions, and other structural abnormalities that may affect fertility or cause abnormal bleeding. The entire procedure is relatively quick, usually taking about 15-30 minutes, and is performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to resume normal activities shortly afterward. For those seeking a Sono Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) Procedure in Kharghar, the SIS offers a comparable, non-radiative alternative that can be conveniently accessed.
